Importance of Celebrating Festivals for Kids

India is a land of diverse cultures, traditions, rituals, and festivals. Children look forward to celebrating these festivals as they will get new dresses, have delicious food and can enjoy the grandeur. But are festivals confined to fun and entertainment alone? Do our kids know the importance of festivals, or ever wonder why they are celebrated? More than the cultural or religious significance, it is the thought of bringing people together in love and harmony that remains at the heart of celebrating festivals.

More than the adults, it is the children who get excited when the festival is around the corner. They are eager to decorate their houses, devour sweets and present gifts to their friends and family. Though such occasions are ideal for writing an essay about my favourite festival, let us see how festivals teach important lessons to children. Apart from the fun and gaiety, there is a sense of belonging and togetherness in celebrating festivals. Let us understand these festivals from their perspectives and help them develop into better individuals.

Learning about Festivals for Kids

In this fast-developing world, we only get a little time to spend with our loved ones. With parents busy with work and children burdened with studies, festivals offer them a respite as they can simply enjoy the presence of their loved ones. As children will be familiar with the religious and cultural significance of different festivals, let us encourage them to write an essay on Diwali, Onam or Makar Sankranti. Here, we will see how festivals make the relationship between parents and children stronger, as well as build necessary skills in them.

  • During the festivals, people come together to celebrate them. Whether it be Holi, Christmas, Diwali, or Eid, people gather together to have a good time with their friends and family. With people taking equal responsibilities and helping each other to make the festival a grand celebration, children will understand the value of working together. They will start to identify themselves as part of a community and learn to work in harmony.
  • It is usually during the festival time that families get reunited. If the father is working abroad or the eldest child is in another state for study purposes, they will certainly come down to celebrate their most awaited festival. Along with sharing the same beliefs, festivals boost the bond between parents and children. As a family, they will join hands together to decorate the house, prepare for celebrations, make sweets and food and buy gifts. Moreover, they get to meet their grandparents, cousins and relatives during the festive season.
  • Festivals are also a reason to send gifts and share happiness. By encouraging kids to buy and pack gifts for friends and family, we will be teaching them the greatest lesson of sharing. In this way, they will be able to share the joy of festivals across families and communities. Besides, we can teach generosity and humility to them by sharing gifts and sweets with the less privileged sections of society, who do not have any means to celebrate the festivals.
  • Celebrating the festivals together gives children a perspective, which they can use to write an essay on my favourite festival. They can elucidate how they spent the festival day and in what activities they participated. By writing an essay, they will be able to know more about the festival, as well as enhance their writing skills. Since Diwali, Christmas, and Eid are popular festivals in India, children will find it amusing to write about them.

Festivals are a country’s identity, and children will be able to learn more about their country and culture by celebrating festivals. Though festivals mark a grand celebration full of life and fun, the lessons that children learn from them will be long-lasting. If they wish to understand the significance of each festival, they can look through the essay on Diwali, Makar Sankranti, Christmas, or Eid from BYJU’S  website. Hence, let us ensure to light the path of our children with such amazing learning resources and activities.
