## What Construction Scope is

Construction Scope is operations and billing software built for small construction businesses — solo operators through twenty-five-person shops. It runs every job from first call to final payment in one workspace, on a web browser (no app install required), priced at a flat monthly rate per workspace instead of per-user.

The problem it exists to solve: small contractors are too large for spreadsheets but too small for enterprise platforms like Buildertrend or JobNimbus. They need jobs, estimates, change orders, labor tracking, materials, invoices, and payments in one place, accessible from a phone in the truck, at a price that doesn't scale with crew size. That's the gap Construction Scope fills.

- **Trial** — Free, 3 days, no card required. All features unlocked. 1 user, 5 active jobs limit.
- **Solo** — $49/month. 1 user, 10 active jobs limit. Everything in the platform.
- **Crew** — $99/month. 5 users, unlimited active jobs. Plus crew roles + permissions.
- **Pro** — $249/month. 25 users, unlimited active jobs. Plus customer payment portal, QuickBooks export, SSO + advanced roles, dedicated success manager.

No per-user fees. No setup fees. No annual contract required (though annual payment available on Pro for additional discount). Cancel anytime from the customer billing portal.

Card and ACH payments processed through Stripe; the company does not add a platform fee on top of Stripe's published rates (2.9% + 30¢ per card transaction, 0.8% capped at $5 for ACH).

## Feature areas

### Customers
Central record per customer with contact info, billing email, multiple job sites under one customer, complete history of every job, estimate, invoice, payment, and change order ever associated with that customer. Customers can be imported from a CSV spreadsheet.

### Jobs
Every piece of work is a job. Each job carries pipeline status (Lead, Estimated, Approved, Scheduled, In progress, Awaiting payment, Closed, Lost), customer, scope notes, schedule dates, crew assignments, photos, internal notes, and a running total of time, materials, and change orders.

### Estimates
Line-item estimates with labor and materials separated, allowance handling, deposit and milestone payment configuration, customer approval via emailed link (signed digitally on phone, no login). Price book of reusable line items with cost + markup. Tax handling. Signed estimates convert to jobs in two clicks.

### Change orders
30-second creation flow, customer approval via emailed link, automatic inclusion on the next invoice, audit trail with timestamp and signature. Negative change orders (scope reductions) work the same way.

### Labor tracking
Mobile time tracking — crew members clock in and out from a phone, no app install. Time entries attach to specific jobs. Foreman approves at end of week; approved hours flow into the next invoice. Different hourly rates per role; emergency / after-hours rates configurable.

### Materials
Vendor receipts photographed and attached to jobs. OCR extracts vendor name, total, and date. Markup applied automatically per the price book. Materials roll into the next invoice automatically.

### Invoices
Generated from a job's approved time, materials, and change orders. Deposit / progress / final templates. Editable before send. Customer pays online via Pay button (ACH or card); the Payment record creates itself; invoice flips to Paid.

### Payments
Stripe-managed customer payments via Stripe Connect — funds land directly in the contractor's bank account, the company never touches the money. Manual payment recording for checks and cash. Refunds and credits handled per invoice. Auto-reminders for overdue invoices.

### Customer approval flow
Every estimate, change order, and invoice can be sent as a customer-facing approval link. Customer opens the link on any browser (no login, no app), reviews the document, signs with name and timestamp, and approves. Construction Scope records the signature, IP, and timestamp on the audit trail.

### Reports
Job profitability per job (quoted vs invoiced vs costs entered). Aging report on the dashboard for unpaid invoices grouped by overdue period. Customer history. Time-and-materials reports per crew member or per job.

### Team and roles
Owner (one per workspace, billing access). Admin (everything except billing). Office (daily ops). Crew (field-only — time, materials, photos, notes). Read-only (view-only, for accountants and partners). Disable removes access without deleting history.

### Customer payment portal (Pro)
Customers log in to one screen showing every invoice you've ever sent them, with payment history and the ability to pay open invoices.

### SSO (Pro)
Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 (Entra ID). Other SAML 2.0 providers on request.

### QuickBooks export (Pro)
Invoices, payments, and customers export as CSV ready for QuickBooks import. Real-time two-way sync is on the roadmap; batch export covers most small shops today.

## How it compares

### Construction Scope vs Buildertrend
Buildertrend is the established player for mid-to-large residential builders ($1M+ ARR, dedicated office staff, larger remodels and new construction). Stronger CRM, more robust scheduling, deeper accounting integrations, owner / sub portals. Starts at $499/mo with a setup fee. For shops with a full-time office manager whose job is the software, Buildertrend is a good fit. For smaller shops where the owner is also the estimator, foreman, and bookkeeper, Buildertrend's breadth becomes training overhead.

### Construction Scope vs JobNimbus
JobNimbus started in roofing and remains strongest there — strong CRM, mature insurance workflow (Xactimate integration, supplements, photo annotation), reliable mobile app. Per-user pricing means a 5-person crew lands around $125/mo, a 10-person team double that. Workflow is heavily sales-pipeline-oriented, which can feel like overhead for execution-focused shops.

### Construction Scope vs spreadsheets + email
