Change plans anytime from Billing. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing cycle. No phone call required, no scheduling needed, no penalty either direction.
Upgrade
Billing → click the plan you want → Choose Plan. Stripe handles the proration so you only pay the difference for the current cycle. If you upgrade mid-month from Solo ($49) to Crew ($99), you pay the prorated difference for the remaining days of the current period — usually $25-40 depending on timing. Next month you're charged the full Crew rate.
Upgrades unlock new features immediately. If you upgrade from Crew to Pro for the QuickBooks export, the export button appears in your dashboard within a minute of the upgrade clearing.
Downgrade
Same flow. The new plan takes effect at the end of your current paid period — you keep the higher tier until then since you've already paid for it. We don't refund the difference; you just keep the higher tier through the rest of the month and the lower tier starts next billing cycle.
Why no refund: most downgrades are seasonal or temporary (busy season ends, planning to revisit at expansion). Keeping the higher tier for the rest of the month gives you the runway to capture all the benefit you paid for.
Plan limits
If a downgrade puts you over the user or job limit, the downgrade is rejected until you bring usage under the new limit. Disable inactive users or archive old jobs first. The system tells you exactly what you need to do — e.g., 'Downgrading to Solo requires disabling 4 users (currently 5 active, Solo allows 1).'
Common upgrade triggers
- Solo → Crew: hiring your first crew member or office manager. You hit the 1-user cap or need crew time tracking.
- Crew → Pro: shop grows past 5 active users; or need QuickBooks export for year-end; or want the customer payment portal for repeat customers.
- Trial → Solo: trial ending and want to keep using the platform. Most common upgrade.
Common downgrade triggers
- Pro → Crew: realized you don't actually need QuickBooks export or SSO for your business size.
- Crew → Solo: contracting back to a 1-person shop after a partner buyout or business reorganization.
- Any plan → cancel: see the Cancel your account article. Different workflow than downgrade.
